The Advantages of Lake Gérardmer

From the terrace and the rooms of the hotel, you can admire the sunsets over Lake Gérardmer.

The lake is situated at an altitude of 660 meters; it’s the largest natural lake in the Hautes Vosges. It is of glacial origin, and the small mound you see at the far end is called the moraine. These are the remnants of rock debris carried over 10,000 years ago by the glacier. As a result, they helped create a natural dam. Its maximum depth is 38 meters. It’s full of trout, pike, tench, and roach… but don’t worry, they don’t bite!

It’s possible to walk all the way around the lake (about 5.5 km) on a designated trail. Allow about an hour and a half at a moderate pace.

Lake Gérardmer hosts a wide range of water activities in summer (kayaking, windsurfing, rowing, sailing, pedal boats, diving, paddleboarding…).

In some winters, it freezes over to the delight of ice-skating fans or ice-diving enthusiasts.
